Music Monday Mania!

I recently started following Urban Outfitters on Facebook. And what did I see on my news feed today?

THIS:

I was like, "WHAT?"
I had to check it out. What did I find?
That it's pretty freakin' awesome. And the best part? You can download all the songs for FREE!

For more music from Urban Outfitters check out their blog. They also have a music section on their blog where you can listen to and download a 20+ song playlist {also FREE}. They even have UO Radio, that you can stream on your computer.

And... because I'm a big blog slacker, here's some more new music I have found recently. Hope you enjoy.

James Blake.

Sexy man. Sexy voice. Sexy song.
'nough said.

Artist: James Blake
Album: James Blake {available 2/15/11}

 Vanity Theft.

This song got stuck in my head the first time I heard it. I can't deci-i-i-de if it's catchy or just annoying. Either way, they're adorable and I love the retro look of the video. {I'm always a sucker for retro} Plus the bass player is Miranda from Lizzie McGuire {actress Lalaine}

Artist: Vanity Theft
Song: Anatomy

Two Door Cinema Club.

Their song, I Can Talk gets stuck in my head too... Because it's awesome!

Artist: Two Door Cinema Club
Album: Tourist History {2010}

The Kills.

I had heard of The Kills before but I never really listened to them. When a friend posted their video for Tape Song on Facebook last week, I gave it a listen.

I said to myself, "Hey, I know this song." And I've been listening to it a lot ever since.

They have a new single out now called Satellite which will be on their new album, Blood Pressures {drops April 5th in the U.S.}

  For updates about their new album and to stream their latest single visit their website.

Artist: The Kills
Album: Midnight Boom {2008}
Song: Tape Song

...I've saved the best for last {In my opinion}

The Naked and Famous.

They only have two songs available in the U.S. right now but they are both amazing. Check out their website for another video and info on where you can  purchase the songs they do have available.

Album: Passive Me Aggressive You {avail. March 2011}

Artist: Peter, Bjorn and John

How can you not love those lyrics? And the video too.

Music Monday: Ice Cream Shout

My friend, Cory {a fellow indie rock lover} introduced me to this weeks band, Ice Cream Shout. I loved what I heard. And the fact that this song is called Marianne {spelled the same as my name!} just makes it even more awesome. I've hear a lot of "Marianne" songs; More than a Feeling by Boston, Stupid Mary Ann by The Dead Milkmen and Sweet Marianne by Coldplay, but I think Ice Cream Shout's Marianne is now my favorite. You can check out a couple of their other songs/videos on their blog.

Artist: Ice Cream Shout
Album: Ice Cream Shout {2010}
Song: Marianne

Happy New Year Everyone!

      Music Monday Madness!!!

      Once again I have slacked off on my blogging. What can I say? I'm cool like that. Here are a few bands I have discovered during my absence:

      Summer Camp from the UK...
      My new favorite band. LOVE them!

      Artist: Summer Camp
      Album: Young EP {November 9, 2010}
      Song: Round the Moon

      The scene from this video are from the Swedish movie Love Story aka A Swedish Love Story from 1970. If you can find it to rent, I would recommend it. I loved it. It is my new favorite movie. It is definitely an off-beat, mostly visual film, if you're into that. Here's a preview from when they released the movie in theaters in France back in 2008.

      First Aid Kit from Sweden...

      Ages 17 & 20, WOW!

      Album: Drunken Trees {October, 2009}

      The Raveonettes from Denmark...

      Artist: The Raveonettes
      Album: 50 Years of Dr. Martens {Oct. 2010}
      Song: I Wanna Be Adored {Cover of  Stone Roses c. 1989}

      This video is so rad!

      Music Monday: Chappo... plus Bonus Track by Chairlift

      While I was watching television this evening the latest ad for the iPod Touch came on. I wasn't even paying attention to the TV, but when that commercial came on my ears immediately perked up. "What is this song?" I wondered. So straight to Youtube I went to search for it. Took me a couple tries but I found it. It was the band Chappo and the song was 'Come Home'. I think the entire EP, 'Plastic Universe' by Chappo is awesome. You can listen to it FREE on their website

      Artist: Chappo
      Album: Plastic Universe EP {April 2010}
      Song: Come Home

      You really never know where you will find great new music. Even when you aren't looking {or listening} for it, it can pop up anywhere. I discovered  Chairlift back in 2008 from and iPod commercial as well. I love their song 'Bruises', which was used in the ad.

      I was lucky enough to see them live back in December of 2008 when they were touring with Vampire Weekend. It was a great show with great bands. Audrye Sessions and Cold War Kids where there too.

      Chairlift in Concert
      If you would like to see all my photos from this concert, check them out on my Face Book here.

      Artist: Chairlift

      Music Monday: How To Destroy Angels

      I am so excited about this weeks band/song! I've been trying to find new music that I love, instead of just kind of liking, but to no avail. Luckily, I asked a friend if he had heard any new music he thought I might like. He suggested How To Destroy Angels. He got it so right!!! I watched the video for The Space in Between and absolutely loved everything; the song, the video, the singer, everything! If I had to describe it in one word it would be SEXY.

      How To Destroy Angels features Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor,  {that's him on the floor in the video} his wife Mariqueen Maandig {super gorgeous!} and Atticus Ross. It basically sounds like a sexier version of NIN with female vocals. I LOVE it! AND you can download the full 6 song EP for FREE! Yes, FREE!

      I realize that everyone might not be into NIN but if you are, I think you will love this as much as I do. And if you are not familiar with NIN give it a try. You can listen to the entire cataloug of songs {here}.

      Enjoy.

      Album: EP {2010}

      And just cause I slacked off last week and didn't post any music, here's another song from the band, Best Coast {featured on another Music Monday} I think most of us have felt this way about someone at some point in our lives... I know I have.

      Artist: Best Coast

      Song: Boyfriend

      Music Monday: Unicycle Loves You

      This is just a quick post today because I need to go pack for a little road trip I'm taking with a couple friends to Ohio.

      I really like the video for the song Mirror Mirror by Unicycle Loves You {Chicago, IL}. I like the song too, of course, but when I was thinking of what band to put on here this week, I remembered the video and, well, here we are. I hope you like it. Definitely check this band out. This song is from their sophomore album that drops today, {9.7.10}. Total coincidence.

      Artist: Unicycle Loves You

      If you like their stuff, you can listen to more of their songs on their site.

      Music Monday: Best Coast

      Wow. This past weekend was a blast. I met so many new people {hopefully friends}. They even like karaoke... score! Maybe my time here won't be so lonely after all.

      I had picked the song for this week before I met any of these awesome people, but it totally fits. My friend  found it on the web and sent it to me. It was love at first listen.

      The band is Best Coast {Los Angeles, CA} and their debut album, Crazy For You, was just released in July of this year. I haven't heard their album yet, but I like what I've heard so far.

      Band: Best Coast

      This video definitely makes me miss the beach... AND In'n'Out.

      Music Monday: Arcade Fire

      The time has come. The time when I forget all the things you do that I don't like. I forget all the things you did that hurt me. The time when, after months of not talking, I want to break down and call you . But you know what is different this time? I didn't break down. I didn't call. Not even an e-mail.

      Artist: Arcade Fire
      Album: The Suburbs
      Song: Ready to Start

      Check out the Music Monday Playlist {on the side of your screen} for two more songs from Arcade Fire.

      **A special thank you to my own "kids"... you know who you are... Thanks for the extra nudge to keep me on my  new "grown-up Marianne" path and always seeing that the Emperor(s) had no clothes. Let's find one that does, shall we?  Love you guys and miss you.**

      Music Monday: New Young Pony Club

      I first heard New Young Pony Club  {London, England} when The Bomb aired on Soundcheck back in 2006. Since then they have been one of my favorite bands. I was drawn to songs like Get Lucky and Ice Cream. They were like nothing I'd ever heard before. And I couldn't get enough.

      Finally, five years later in March 2010, they released a new album. Yay! Here's their second single {We Want To} from the 2010 album, The Optimist:

      Artist: New Young Pony Club
      Album: The Optimist
      Song: We Want To

      And for your listening/veiwing pleasure... My favorite songs from their debut album, Fantstic Playroom {2005}.

      Artist: New Young Pony Club
      Album: Fantastic Playroom
      Song: Ice Cream

      Artist: New Young Pony Club
      Album: Fantastic Playroom
      Song: Get Lucky

      Artist: New Young Pony Club
      Album: Fantastic Playroom
      Song: The Bomb

      Music Monday: Company of Thieves and The National

      I've totally slacked off on Music Monday's for the past couple weeks. I didn't even make it close to posting this on Monday either. It's Friday. Bad me.

      This week I have chosen two bands to feature. Simply because I couldn't choose which one I heart more. I heard both of these bands last week on the XM Radio Station Alt Nation

      The first band is Company of Thieves. I heard the first song, Oscar Wilde, {on XM} and thought Genevieve Schatz's {vocals} voice was like purple velvet...

      Artist: Company of Thieves
      Album: Ordinary Riches
      Song: Oscar Wilde

      ...While I was looking up that video on YouTube I came across their video for the acoustic version of the song Even in the Dark, {from the same album} and I was hooked. She just sounds so amazing and fills the song with such emotion. I went straight to Amazon to buy the entire album. It may be a little premature, but I think this might be my new favorite band.

      Artist: Company of Thieves
      Album: Ordinary Riches
      Song: Even in the Dark

      The next band I picked is The National. Like Company of Thieves I totally fell in love with singer, Matt Berninger's voice. If Johnny Cash and Jeff Daniels had a love child, Berninger would be him.  I  really like the melancholy feeling evoked by this song. Plus it's kind of cool that the first time I heard it I  was actually in Ohio, {on the Hwy 127 Corridor Sale}.

      Artist: The National
      Album: High Violet
      Song: Bloodbuzz Ohio

      {Click on album and/or song links to purchase on amazon. I like amazon better than iTunes. Mostly because the songs are always .99 whereas on iTunes, a lot of the popular songs are $1.29.}

      Music Monday: Noah and the Whale

      I adore this little tune, 5 Years Time by Noah and the Whale. It really is true. You really never know what will happen in your relationships with the people you may know. I had a friend for about 10 years. I thought we would be friends for always, but that ended over one bad decision {on my part}. Honestly I think it ended long before that.

      It's kind of sad. You think you know someone and then in the blink of an eye they can turn out to be someone completely different. I guess you just have to take it one day at a time. Have fun in the moment. And if that friendship one day comes to an end, remember the fun you had and don't get hung up on the other stuff. It's hard, I admit, but in time you can move on. I will move on.

      Artist: Noah and the Whale
      Song: 5 Years Time
      Album: Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down

      Music Monday: The Big Pink

      I totally forgot it was Monday! Oops.  And when it came to picking a song for today's M.M I was stumped. Until I remembered...

      On Friday I was up into the wee hours of the morning painting my newly built bathroom {before & after coming soon} with iTunes on shuffle. I have tons and tons of music on there. So much that I haven't even listened to all of it. I have a bad habit of finding a band i like, downloading their album{s} and then just listening to the songs I already know. Or completely ignoring the whole album cause I'm listening to a different one over and over.

      I was painting away and a song I didn't recognize caught my attention.  As soon as I heard that it was sort of a duet I was hooked. I love songs with both male and female voices. "What band is this?" It was The Big Pink's  A Brief History of Love. While I was familiar with other songs from this band {Dominos and Velvet listen here} This song  is a little more slow and almost depressing than the others, but I like it. I do tend to like  songs with that vibe anyway... That in addition to the 'duet' has me hooked. I really, really, like it.

      Artist: The Big Pink
      Album: A Brief History of Love

      Music Monday: Nick Drake

      It's official... Summer is here! Summer is a magical time of year. There is such beauty in simple things. Like dangling my arm out the car window while the warm night air tickles my fingertips or forgetting that it's 9:45pm because it's still light outside. I can't get enough. And watermelon. The heat is worth it...just for the watermelon.

      Several years ago I saw this commercial...

      I loved it! Not only did it convey my idea of summer perfectly, but I also fell in love with the song. I found out later that it was a song called Pink Moon by Nick Drake. I also found that I really liked his other music as well. It's the perfect soundtrack to summer! There's nothing better than laying on the ground in an empty mountain top parking lot star gazing while Nick Drake fills the night air with delicious melodies.

      While Pink Moon is an awesome song and one of my all time favorites,  From the Morning is perfect for summer {just check out the lyrics} and, of course, another great tune from Drake.  I don't think he ever made any videos {they didn't do that in the seventies, did they?} So I made a slide show with some of my photographs that capture the feelings of summer. I hope you enjoy...
